KEVIN KIMBALL ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR DISTRICT JUDGE
I am excited to announce that I will be a candidate for 18th Judicial District Court Judge. Current Judge James Best, who has long served with honor, is retiring. The election to fill his Division A seat is on October 14, 2017.
My wife, Sherry, and I made this decision after careful and prayerful consideration. I have long held a sincere desire to serve the people of Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge as a fair and impartial judge. In addition, I believe I now have the experience, expertise and integrity to serve you well.
WHY I WANT TO BE YOUR JUDGE:
Both in my professional work and my spare time, I have been very involved, for many years, in trying to steer our youth toward positive, productive lives. This has included my service for the past 10 years as the 18th Judicial District Court Juvenile Indigent Defender, and as a volunteer coach for local and school baseball and football teams for more than 10 years. I think that I can be even more effective in helping our youth as a judge.
I believe I now have the experience, expertise, and the wisdom gained of age, to serve you well. I have tried more than 10 jury trials, including numerous drug and murder trials and have been previously certified to handle capital cases. I am the only candidate with felony criminal trial experience.
I have practiced law in the areas of family law, successions and real estate law for 28 years. I also have experience in personal injury law. I am proud that during my work as an Assistant Indigent Defender in 18th Judicial District Court, I have gained the respect of the District Attorney’s Office prosecutors and judges through hard work, thorough preparation and integrity. Should you elect me, I believe these character traits will be important in making me a good and fair judge.
BACKGROUND:
I am a native of Maringouin, and the son of the late William L. “Billy” Kimball, Sr., a respected attorney, and Nora D. Kimball. I am a proud 1982 graduate of Catholic High of Pointe Coupee. I received my bachelor’s degree with major in pre-law and a minor in psychology from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. I received my law degree from Loyola School of Law in New Orleans in 1989.
Public service has long been part of the Kimball family. My cousin, Clyde Kimball, served in the La. Legislature for 16 years, and his wife, Catherine “Kitty” Kimball, retired as the Chief Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court with over 30 years of service. My grandfather, H.M. Kimball, Sr., was a state Senator; and my great uncle, Dan Kimball, was the Division A judge for many years. The legacy of service in our family, especially in the area of law, is something I want to continue.
I am married to Sherry Harvey Kimball, the daughter of Robert “Bud” and Sarah M. Harvey of Port Allen. We moved to her hometown after our marriage. Sherry’s father has retired after many years of service at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge, and her mother has also retired after working many years at Women’s Hospital. Sherry is also committed to helping others by working as a nurse at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for more than 23 years.
We are the proud parents of three children: Kaelyn Marie Kimball, a senior at St. Joseph’s Academy; Jacob Kevin Kimball, a junior at Catholic High School; and Connor Matthew Kimball, a fifth grader at Holy Family School in Port Allen. Being outdoors is a favorite past-time of mine. I love hunting and fishing, and our family enjoys camping together.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:
I am currently coaching Connor’s fifth grade baseball team. I am also a coach for the school football team, and have coached one or more sports in West Baton Rouge Rec from 2004 until 2015.
In addition, I have served on the Holy Family Catholic Church Advisory Council and its Building Committee for many years, including serving as Advisory Council Chairman from 2010 -2014. I have been a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 2875 since 1991 and have served as Advocate since 2008; and was a member of the Maringouin Lions Club for 16 years until it dissolved in 2014.
I look forward to personally walking the district, visiting with everyone and asking for your vote. Please consider me as your next District Judge.
